Don’t get me wrong, I love The Hunger Games series. However, I equally hate books being broken down into multiple movies. So as much as it pains me to say it, it comes as little surprise that on its own, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 just doesn’t get the job done.

If you’re like me, then you are sick and tired of every new YA novel being compared to The Hunger Games. It’s not like Suzanne Collins invented the genre! But I’m gonna say it, as much as I don’t want to: Red Rising could really be the next Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire saves the franchise from being an outright atrocity, it’s even a very good film at times, but I fear the source material is going to keep the series from greatness.

With the end of the year heading this way, there’s only so much time to cram in all forms of entertainment from this year before it’s too late (if you’re writing an end of post, that is). With that said, there are still plenty of new releases heading this way competing for your attention.
