Good Ole Fashion Television Review: Terra Nova 1.4

TerranovaheaderSo first off I have to say that I missed last week’s episode (episode three) of Terra Nova thanks to the ALCS.  I have to work Monday nights so I record each episode on my DVR but thanks to the ALCS going to extra innings last Monday, all I recorded was the last two innings of the game and about 7 minutes of Terra Nova.  I have no clue what I missed last week and I hope it wasn’t anything too important.  If it was anything like episode two then I didn’t miss anything at all.  So, having said that (yes, I did do that on purpose, don’t judge) I hope that nothing I say in this review ties in with last weeks episode in a way that I have no knowledge of and therefore makes me look foolish, at least not too foolish.  For example as far as I know, this is the first time there has been an encounter with the Sixers since the pilot.  To me this felt like, finally we get to return to the plot but again maybe last week we saw some more progression in the main story line and I didn’t get a chance to see it.  Either way I am glad to see the return of the Sixers in this week’s episode.

Finally Terra Nova had a well written episode.  Not only was the main story line the entire focus of this episode but it was actually interesting too.  Leah, the little girl in the episode was the only weak point I saw in the acting, but I think that’s because we mostly only saw the main characters of the show.  Jason O’Mara and Stephen Lang have always delivered but we got another chance to see Mira, Christine Adams.  I was kind of confused as to why Mira decided to let Jim just take Leah’s brother Sam back to Terra Nova.  She captured Jim, knocked him unconscious and then just had a nice little chat with him.  Why wouldn’t she torture him and hold him hostage?  Why did she just automatically trust him and decide to tell him her side of the story?  That part didn’t make any sense but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t entertaining.  We all wanted to know why the Sixers were doing what they were doing and now we know…kind of.  We know they are being paid by someone from the future to take out Captain Taylor because Captain Taylor has a lot of enemies from 2140.  We have no idea who those enemies are or what their disagreements with Captain Taylor are all about.

Mira also tells Jim that there is something going on inside of Terra Nova, some sort of hidden agenda.  She never reveals what this is, and won’t tell Jim what is inside of the box she sent Leah to steal.  So even though she doesn’t tell Jim everything, she still tells him a lot and we have no clue why.  She lets Jim leave with Leah’s brother Sam and the only thing I can think of to maybe explain all of this, is that she wants Jim on her side.  She must have known that if she let him leave with Leah’s brother, Jim would keep his mouth shut when Captain Taylor asked him what it was that Mira talked with him about.  I hope we get to see what is going on inside of Terra Nova, and I feel that the outcome of that discovery will lead to Jim being faced with a decision of staying in Terra Nova or joining the Sixers.  I don’t know if this will happen in next weeks episode but either way I hope that there is more story progression like there was tonight.
