Kristin Chenoweth reprises her role as April in another episode of Glee. This week’s episode was viewed by 12.59m people! Not as good as last week, which is pretty sad considering how amazing this episode turned out to be.
Mercedes is forced by Sue Sylvester to lose 10lbs for an upcoming magazine article about the Cheerios. She tries eating healthy at first but is then convinced by the other cheerleaders to not eat anything at all. After fainting and going to the nurse, Quinn sympathizes with her. She teaches Mercedes that she doesn’t have to hate herself everytime she eats anything. When mocked by Mercedes about being a skinny white girl, Quinn says, “When you start eating for somebody else so that they can grow and be healthy, your relationship with food changes.” I have to say I love Quinn’s changes since the beginning of this series! She then praises Mercedes for always being comfortable with herself aka. being at home in her body.
Finn’s mom and Kurt’s dad are now in a relationship. Kurt approves of it only because he wants to live with Finn. Finn disapproves because he still misses his dad. After a long talk with his mom and Kurt’s dad, Finn comes to accept Kurt’s dad as someone who loves and cares for his mom. Kurt on the other hand, realizes he’s made a mistake because his dad now has someone to do “guy” stuff with.
April’s part in this episode was just weird… She’s now a mistress to some rich guy and owns a roller skating rink. She stays with Will for a while, but is then advised to go find her “home”.
I LOVE this episode’s theme of Home. I think it added a lot of depth to this show while also teaching its viewers some valuable lessons. I give the plot of this episode an A.
Music. I’ll be honest, I’m not really familiar with any of these songs. That didn’t stop me from liking them though!
Fire – a duet with April and Will. Let’s face it, Kristin Chenoweth can do no wrong. I thought it was a pretty cute song. Also, Will is a lot less annoying when he has a mic in his hand and can’t do this excessive hand motions.
A House is Not a Home – Kurt would sound so good if he didn’t sound like a woman… And can he be more of a creep towards Finn? The lyric made Finn and Will think about their home which I thought was nice.
One Less Bell to Answer – Another Will and April duet. Ok did it seem to anyone else that April was seducing Will at first? Anyway, another song about how they both don’t have a home.
Beautiful – A Mercedes solo. WOW! I think Christina Aguilera would approve of this cover of her song. Mercedes sings about being comfortable in her own skin and invites the rest of the school to join her, VERY CUTE!
Home – An April solo. Glee really knows how to pick a song to end the episode! I hope Kristin Chenoweth gets an Emmy for this performance, cause she definitely deserves it!
Musically, this episode is an A for sure!
Honestly this episode was hit and miss for me. I loved the story even though people were breaking down in tears left and right, but the music was nothing really special. This was actually the first time that my roommate and I fast-forwarded through a song, and with Kristin singing no less.
