Wondering what to do with your upcoming free time? Good thing we have some suggestions for what you should be watching, playing, reading, listening to, etc.

Lauren’s TV Pick: The Pitt – It’s been a minute since I’ve been into a medical drama — I’m blanking on anything post the early seasons of Grey’s Anatomy, honestly — but if anyone was gonna bring me back to the genre then I can’t complain about it being Noah Wyle. The Pitt sets itself apart from the rest with its each-episode-is-an-hour-of-one-shift structure (even if my husband says it’s far from believable that this many “big event” type cases would all happen in the same day, shhshhshhshhshhhhhh. He also said that a degloving doesn’t look like what we see in the first episode, but that didn’t keep it from still looking extra gross to me). I may not understand the medical jargon they’re slinging the majority of the time, but I’m just happy to be a part of the team; one that’s filled with a cast of largely new-to-me actors who all bring such heart to their characters. There is literally not one character that I am not at least somewhat invested in, and that’s thanks in large part to the performances. Come for the humorous through lines of a rat infiltration, a war with a scrub dispenser, and every opportunity to make fun of the idiots doctors and nurses have to deal with (looking at you, anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers), stay because the tragedies that often hit an ER make it impossible for you to see the pause and/or back button to give yourself a reprieve.

Ben’s TV Pick: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew – Aside from Andor and Visions, Skeleton Crew is the most unique Star Wars series to date. While I do enjoy/love most of the other Star Wars shows, that’s exactly what they are, and they all feel like it in tone and style. Skeleton Crew’s secret is that it’s an homage to a classic story that just happens to be set in a galaxy far, far away. “And what story is that?” you might ask. Well, it’s one of my long-time favorites: the kid-led pirate adventure of The Goonies. I may be a tad biased because Skelton Crew blends two huge, cinematic pieces of my childhood together, but the end result really does feel fresh and exciting. I don’t think I’d be as high on it if it wasn’t for the great quartet of kids leading the story though. Plus, it has a wonderfully charming rogue played by Jude Law, and Nick Frost voices a one-eyed robot! Here’s hoping Disney continues to try different styles of storytelling and allows more.

Ben’s Video Game Pick: Thank Goodness You’re Here! – If you’re looking for a game that is unlike anything else out there, then Thank Goodness You’re Here! is one I cannot recommend enough. It’s a “slapformer” puzzle game that has you completing (really) odd jobs in a truly delightful, absurdist comedy world. It’s a genuinely bizarre game through and through, but the puzzles all still make mechanical sense despite the surreal environments you’ll find yourself in. The control scheme is just your basic jumping, walking and, well, slapping, but it’s the experience of exploring the game that makes it so entertaining. Oh, and the pay-off of solving puzzles continually outdoes what came before in terms of insanity and hilarity. It’s a short adventure that you can easily complete in one sitting, and it’ll keep you smiling the entire time.
