This weeks episode of Terra Nova is entitled Nightfall and is an obvious reference to the entire Terra Nova village losing power.  This lose of power comes from a meteor that discharges an EMP as it breaks into the earths atmosphere.  I believe most of us are familiar with EMP’s and how they work thanks to Goldeneye and The Matrix so there’s no need to go into explanation.  In the world of Terra Nova, despite being 80 million years in the past, everything still relies on electronics.  This episode was the full package, there was tension, romance kind of, action and we once again got to see the story line progress very nicely.  We finally know why Mira wanted the box so bad and what the box contained inside it.  We were introduced to a new character as well, Lucas who I believe is Captain Taylor’s son but they never specifically mentioned whether he was or not.

This episode featured something we had not yet seen so far in this series and that was the Shannon girls.  Maddy and Zoe Shannon have been seen in every episode but have never had very much of a role so far.  It was nice to see them actually doing something and we actually got a chance to see what their characters are like, even though both of their respective scenes were essentially fluff.  The relationship between Maddy and the young buff soldier was obvious from the beginning but it was nice to see it finally develop into something real.  I honestly could care less what happens between the two of them though but maybe that’s just me.  As for Zoe, her time with her father was actually pretty interesting.  Whatever that chamber they were in really was, was pretty incredible of a concept but the roller coaster thing was just flat out corny.  Jim seemed to feel the same way during the short scene of the power going out on them, he seemed to feel stupid with the scene as a whole and it was obvious in his acting.  I really liked the way they provided us with the background story for Zoe, it answered a lot of questions that were raised about how the family was able to conceal her birth.

The whole parasite moment was kind of cool…and gross, well mostly just gross.  It gave us a little bit more of a glimpse into Skye’s character and her relationship with the guy with the parasite.  The poor kid, he’s laying there in complete agony and trying to confess his love to Skye but she’s too caught up in the grossness and of the moment to even pay attention.  I guess this will likely lead to a throw down between him and Josh since there is clearly a love triangle being formed here, and someone is going to have to lose.  This sequence started off strong but ended in a very anticlimactic fashion.  I was down right freaked out when that thing just broke off from it’s tail end and went right back inside of him, he seemed to go into a critical condition when that happened as well.  Then they get the power restored and take a look and the parasite is dead…and they just leave it inside him.  I guess it will just digest itself out of his body but I mean come on, it went back inside of him and made him start convulsing only to die?  What a ripoff!  Did they just run out of time to write anymore about this or what?  So freaking disappointing.

The best part about this episode was of course the break in by the Sixers.  Mira uses the dinosaur to distract Captain Taylor and meanwhile breaks into the medical facility to steal that special box.  Finally we know what the box is…well kinda.  Mira delivers it to Lucas and he opens it.  It displays something to him that he refers to as beautiful but what the hell is he looking at?  There’s some type of formula and I’m pretty sure similar drawings to the ones we saw in the first episode, but what does all of that mean?  I’m pretty sure this Lucas character is supposed to be Captain Taylor’s son and they kind of hinted at that but never really confirmed it.  Mira has no idea what this box is either so it appears Lucas is the only one in this time period who has any idea, but what purpose does this box actually serve?  I guess we will just have to wait until next week to find out.
