We are now halfway through the year, and I must say, it has been slow. There have been some great albums, but lots of weeks where there has been little to no new music to enjoy. But one like myself, can only wish of some new things to come. This is just a list of wishes, NOT promises, so enjoy.

1. A New Blink-182 Single

Yup, just a single. I know that the trio have been working on their own things (Hoppus with a TV show, Barker on a rap-collaboration album (which came out earlier this year), and DeLonge has already confirmed a new Angel and Airwaves album coming out later this year) and is now touring with My Chemical Romance on the Honda Civic Tour this summer, but ONE single would be great. Just to let fans know that you are still working hard, and thinking about how long it has been since they released any new music. Wouldn’t it be nice?

2. The Start of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy II

Last year, Kanye West struck pure gold with his latest release, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Now, Kanye is a very smart businessman, and he probably knows it’s best to strike while the iron’s hot. I wouldn’t be surprised that he is in the studio right now working on some crazy song right now for whatever he decides to do for his follow up to his hip-hop masterpiece. Even if we have to watch him punch a winner at this year’s Video Music Awards and sit on our hands for about a year, it will all be worth it if he can somehow duplicate his Fantasy one more time.

3. A *Brand New* Brand New Album

Your Favorite Weapon helped push the re-emergence of punk music in the new millennium. Deja Entendu was considered one of the best Emo albums of all time. The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me was considered the birth of a new Radiohead. Daisy was a mud-stomp of a folksy-rock album. Brand New have never done the same thing twice, and that’s probably why I like the band so much; they keep evolving their sound into great works of under-appreciated rock art. It would be great to hear some new material in the near future (hopefully a little bit more positive, because they are known for their downers).

4. Kid Cudi to Put Out Man On The Moon III, Not A Rock Album

I understand that Kid Cudi wants to explore out from his rap roots and do something that today is pretty unheard of: put out a rock record. Now, I am all for experimentation, but after listening to his first single “Perfect is the Word,” made me wonder why not just finish up his Man on the Moon trilogy. Cudi is slated to release a new mixtape later this summer called A Man Named Scott, which after listening to ITS first single “Capcom,” makes me excited for whenever MotM3 comes out.

5. An Up And Coming Band to Break Out

Bands nowadays are really getting the shaft from the music industry today. Without radio support, advertisements, or a mainstream television show, the rock and alternative genres have been skidding for years. Some have broken out from MTV (like Fall Out Boy) and from VH1 (Mumford and Sons), but since both of those networks don’t really play music anymore, that leaves bands sitting in the dust of giant pop stars. They now have to rely on some serious word-of-mouth to get some album sales. So why not start here: if you are looking for some new music, check out Conditions, River City Extension, and The Wonder Years.

6. A Comeback Album People Want

I don’t know about you, but I’m not lining up to by Limp Bizkit album to drop. Artists nowadays are putting out music like it’s nothing; about at a yearly basis. So why not have artists/groups that haven’t had any sort of new music come out in some time make a small comeback. No Doubt, Outkast, Dr. Dre, and Red Hot Chili Peppers all have announced that they are working on new albums, only one of which has a “set” release date (RHCP on August 30th). Let’s hope each of these artists get their work done, because we are in dire need of good music.

7. The Death of Auto-Tune

T-Pain has claimed that he will stop using this voice-changing device from his music. When the King of Auto-Tune puts down the tube, then it’s time that everyone should. I personally feel that if you have to Auto-Tune your voice, then not only are you a bad singer, but also kinda lazy. Put Auto-Tune away, and let’s here you really sing.

8. Artists Return To The Radio, Leave Clubs

Mostly every big pop song nowadays is almost tailored for the clubs, not the radios. With fast-paced beats and usually fake-vocal work (see above), it really takes away from the artists that actually sit down and sing their asses off. Some club songs aren’t bad, and maybe it’s just because of the overpopulation of the dance genre right now, but I wish that they would aim their material towards the FM station rather than big time clubs.

9. Dubstep to Stop Appearing in Pop Songs

A couple of years ago, one of my friends introduced me to the electric style of dubstep. I was hooked. Artists like Bassnectar and Skrillex have huge followings today, which might or might not include big pop artists. Dubstep’s influence has reached to artists such as 3Oh3!, LMFAO, Rihanna, and Britney Spears, which would be fine, but some of the songs are awful (IMO). I’d love for some true dubstep artists to somehow break out and shine above some of the pop artists today, but maybe the underground is where dubstep should belong.

10. Have 2010’s be The Golden Age of Something

I know this isn’t really for the rest of this year, but I think it should be written. The early 1990’s was called the Golden Age of Hip Hop, the late 90’s through the 2000’s was the Age of Pop, and so what is 2010+? Dance music? Oh, I hope not. I understand that such artists like Far East Movement, Ke$ha (sigh), and Pitbull have all banked on their infectious beats and catchy hooks, but some songs by these and many more artists are just bad. I don’t know what not only this year, but the rest of the decade has in store for music, but I would love for dance music to quietly go away.
